Welcome to Gentle Care Chiropractic!

Dr. Amy McConnell at Gentle Care Chiropractic specializes in the gentle, low-force chiropractic technique of "Activator Methods".

Doctors of chiropractic detect and correct vertebral subluxations. Vertebral subluxations (which are misalignments in the spine) can disrupt proper nerve function in the body and lead to decreased body performance and decreased health. By correcting these misalignments and restoring proper nerve flow, chiropractors help people enjoy more of their full potential for health. Chiropractic helps to remove the interferences so that the body can heal itself naturally. Chiropractic is a natural healing profession that helps the body's communication system (nervous system) to work more effectively to control and coordinate the various functions of cells, organs, and body systems.

While there are many different, effective chiropractic techniques, Dr. Amy McConnell specializes in a technique called "Activator Methods".

Activator Methods Technique

Activator Methods is a very safe, gentle, effective technique that uses a small, handheld instrument called an "Activator". There are NO "cracks" or "pops" or "twists" that one may associate with some other chiropractic techniques. Using the Activator, Dr. McConnell can deliver a specific, controlled, low-force "adjustment" to the body. Activator Methods technique can be used on patients of all ages - from children to seniors. Patients who are suffering from arthritis, degeneration, and osteoporosis , who may not be able to receive some traditional chiropractic adjustments are treated comfortably and effectively with this technique. The gentle thrust delivered by the Activator is so quick that the patient's muscles are less likely to tighten and resist the adjustment. This results in a more precise and exact adjustment.

Activator Methods uses a testing protocol, which uses a system of body mechanics, neurological reflexes and leg length analysis to check the patient's overall spinal balance and to help locate the misalignments in the spine and extremities. The Activator doctor follows certain testing after the adjustments to ensure that the necessary re-alignment is accomplished successfully and correctly.

Activator Methods is one of the most widely researched chiropractic techniques with many clinical trials to support its effectiveness. "Activator Methods has published hundreds of clinical and scientific peer-reviewed papers, worked with major academic research institutions and received grants from recognized entities like the National Institutes of Health" (activatormethods.com).

On the first visit, Dr. McConnell will thoroughly review the patient's history. She will then perform a detailed exam, checking reflexes, posture, orthopedic tests, muscle tests, sensory dermatomes, and range of motion to determine if chiropractic care can help. She will review these findings with the patient as well as the results that can be expected. If the patient's condition requires attention from another branch of healthcare, that recommendation or referral will be made.
